    The Division of Continuing Education at Kansas State University has been offering courses through distance education for over 30 years, and now, through increased technology, distance education courses may be taken from all over the world. Currently the Division of Continuing Education is offering over 250 courses each year.

    The Delivery – Using today’s technology, K-State distance education is made available to students in many ways including:
  • Web-based
  • Listservs/e-mail
  • CD-ROM
  • Guided studies or print-based
  • Audiocassette
  • Videotape
  • TELENET 2, a video-teleconferencing network in Kansas

    Many web-based courses are delivered using K-State Online, a course management system designed to deliver an interactive classroom to students. K-State Online uses chat rooms, virtual office hours, message boards, multimedia slideshows, audio/video streaming, online assignments, quizzes, grade books, and point and click navigation.

    Access – Students can enroll anytime by using the web. Distance education courses are offered in the most appropriate distance delivery method for that particular course. In addition, a Technical Support Help Desk is available to all K-State distance education students.

    The Students – Distance education students come from a variety of backgrounds, including adults wanting to complete their education, advance their careers, or change their professions. K-State’s distance education program provides these people with education and career opportunities that let them stay at home with their families or keep their current job. Being a distance education student requires dedication, self-direction, and perseverance in order to succeed.

    The Programs – K-State offers many degree programs or courses through distance education. Students may enroll in the bachelor’s degree completion program to complete a degree that they have already begun working towards. Bachelor’s degree completion programs are available for:
  • Animal Sciences and Industry
  • General Business
  • Early Childhood Education (only in Kansas)
  • Dietetics
  • Food Science and Industry
  • Interdisciplinary Social Science

    Students may also work towards master’s degrees in the following areas:
  • Agribusiness
  • Engineering: Electrical, Chemical, Civil, Software Engineering, and Engineering Management
  • Industrial/Organizational Psychology
  • Food Science
  • Personal Financial Planning
  • Youth Development
  • Gerontology
  • Agribusiness
    Students may also choose to further their careers by attaining certificates and endorsements from K-State in:
  • Food Science
  • Early Childhood Education Administration
  • Occupational Health
  • Personal Financial Planning
