Eastern Michigan University Ypsilanti, Michigan Distance Learning Program Distance learners can complete their online education entirely via the Internet. Registration, book buying, discussions, homework assignments, and exams are all available at the click of a computer mouse. Courses are delivered via World Wide Web, videotapes and DVDs, print, and ITV. Students may meet in person or interact via e-mail, World Wide Web, mail, telephone, fax, or interactive television. More than 100 faculty members from EMU's academic departments currently teach online, Independent Learning, and Interactive Television courses at EMU. Prior Learning and Portfolio Development is offered to students seeking credit for prior learning through portfolio assessment. A free workshop helps students identify competencies and document experience to create a portfolio to present for assessment by faculty members in appropriate departments. Programs of Study Applying for Distance Education Students may transfer credits from another institution or may earn credits through examinations, portfolio assessment, military training, or business training. Undergraduate admission requirements include a completed application; a $30 application fee; transcripts from all high schools, colleges, or universities previously attended; and ACT or SAT I scores for persons with fewer than 12 college credits who are under 21 (no ACT or SAT I test scores are required for individuals over the age of 21). Individuals with 12 or more transferable credits apply as transfer students and usually do not need to send high school transcripts. Graduate admission requirements include a completed application, a $35 application fee, and all transcripts from any colleges or universities the student has attended. In addition, each graduate program has its own requirements, which may include any or all of the following: proof of a GRE or GMAT score, a personal statement, one or more letters of recommendation, and a teaching certificate, for students planning to study education.
